My parents had seat belts installed in the ’57 Chevy wagon in 1960. I don’t ***know*** what they paid, but I doubt it was more than a couple of hundred dollars–adjusted for inflation–and it could have been well less than that. Various other cars had seat belts, and then shoulder harnesses installed until shoulder harnesses became mandatory.
In the filing, GM says the front-passenger inflators were custom-made for its trucks by Takata with bigger vents and stronger steel end caps than other inflators. No truck inflators have blown apart on roads or in extensive laboratory testing, the company says. —-
‘DIESEL’ is one of the leading European trade magazines for this sector and has been reporting for 22 years on the development and manufacture of diesel engines and their applications. This TCD 9.0 was also included by the trade magazine ‘OEM Off-Highway’ in its ‘Top Ten New Products of 2017.’
Very few people have gifts of driving excellence. I certainly did not. I was in three collisions from the age of 16-20, all my fault. Those accidents made me realize that I was a poor driver who needed to improve. I took the next 1.5 decades to train myself in defensive driving and disciplined myself into good driving habits. I did not expect anyone or anything to do the work for me.
But, I hate the lane departure warning, forward collision warning and the like because bad drivers rely on them rather than actively driving the car. Good drivers will ignore the false alerts until one day its for real and they still ignore it. Normalization of deviance its called in some circles.
This is the best WP shock that we have ever ridden with. We set the race sag at 105mm and went in on the high-speed compression and rebound. We were impressed.
Today’s front-drive cars to me are actually more difficult to handle in snow and ice, even though they have the ability to pull themselves out of trouble (cart behind the horse, vs the pusher drive of the older cars with the horse behind the cart. Think about it.) I got used to feeling the tail try to swing and bringing it back in line; front drive cars you have to do almost the exact opposite and add a touch of throttle to try and pull the car into line.
Motocross Action is a true-to-life motorcycle magazine. Just as Bonnie and Clyde robbed banks, the MXA wrecking crew tests bikes. We test over 75 motocross bikes a year. It is a full-time job. The sheer number of machines we ride has taught us to take a straightforward approach to racing performance. And, make no mistake about it, we test by racing. What follows is a compendium of facts about the class of 2019.
Electronically controlled anti-skid braking systems were standard on 1974 Lincoln Mark IVs. They were optional on Lincolns and T-Birds since 1969. It was a rear wheel only system. I know because The Old Man always fully optioned his vehicles so we had this system on multiple cars and the sales rep commented when it became standard.
The 2019 Colorado represents the fifth model year of the second-generation model and it’s bringing a packed list of new features ahead of an expected 2020 Colorado facelift. One of those features is ultrasonic rear park assist, which is now available for some Colorado trim levels.
The instrument cluster displays an overhead silhouette of the truck with a series of bars, which bars illuminate and change color from yellow, to amber, and then ultimately to red along with shortening intervals of beeps to alert the driver to approaching objects or walls before any contact is made. The system is designed specifically for larger objects (other vehicles, walls, parking blocks, etc) and not for pedestrians or children.
Kawasaki has been inching away from its upright steering sensation for a few years, but for 2019 it completed the transformation. The 2019 Kawasaki can turn in with confidence, but most important it stays planted on turn exit better than the Yamaha, Honda or Suzuki. It doesn’t hurt that the KX450 is 5 pounds lighter than the closest Japanese-built bike. When you are leaning into a rut on the edge of the balance point, 5 pounds is a big deal. We rate the KX450 handling ahead of the YZ450F.
